A 6 yard skip is perfect for a range of bulky and heavy waste. If you’re used to working in metres, then consider that a six yard skip is equivalent to 4.6 cubic metres of capacity and plenty of space for around 40 big black bin bags worth of waste. The skip itself isn’t huge, stand next to it and it will come up to around your waist.
A 6 yard skip is our smallest skip hire. If you don’t need this much space then check out our wait & load services.
An 8 yard skip is ideal if you have a bit more bulky or hardcore waste to get rid of. We can’t always take this kind of waste in a larger skip due to the weight, so keep that in mind if you’re handling builder’s rubble or other such heavy materials an 8 yard skip is your best bet.
To give you a better idea of size, an 8 yard skip is equivalent to 6 cubic metres of space and can hold around 60 big black bin bags worth of rubbish.
A 10 yard skip is what we’d recommend for a full house clearance. You’re going to be able to fit a lot of waste into this 8.85 cubic metre space. Height wise, if you’re stood next to it a 10 yard skip will reach around shoulder height.
If you want to break it down, you’re looking at about 80 big black bin bags worth of rubbish, or plenty of space for the disposal of multiple items of furniture, garden waste and more.
Big house clearance? Do you have dozens of bags of rubbish you need collecting and disposing of responsibly? A 12 yard skip from Skip It will do the job. This skip is about shoulder height if you’re stood next to it. With 9.2 cubic metres of space on offer, you could pretty much fit a family hatchback inside these skips there’s that much space.
Chances are you don’t need a skip to take away your car though, so what can you put in a 12 yard skip? Well a great deal of general household waste, furniture, garden waste or about 100 big black bin bags worth of mixed rubbish with a maximum weight of 5 tonnes.

One yard is perfect if you just have the one bulky item you need us to take away, such as an armchair, small desk, washing machine or dishwasher.
A quarter load gives you a bit more space to play with. Book a ¼ load if you have multiple items that need to be collected. To give you an idea of space, you could fit 4 tumble dryers in this space or about 20 big black bin bags full of rubbish.
A half load in one of our 14 yard transit vehicles gives you plenty of space. If you’re bagging up your waste, you’ll be able to fit about 40 bin bags into this space. Or if we’re talking single bulky items, then you have space for around 8 tumble dryers here, pretty much equivalent in size to a standard builder’s skip.
A ¾ load is around 60 big black bin bags or a mixture of bagged rubbish and appliances.
Got a whole lot of rubbish you need to dispose of? You need a full load in our 14 yard transit vehicle. With this capacity we can take around 2 builder’s skips worth of waste. That’s equivalent to 80 big black bin bags of rubbish up to a total weight of 2 tonnes. If you want us to take a mixture of white goods, wood, metal, plasterboard, furniture and black bags, we’re happy to do so.

A quarter load of an 18 yard transit vehicle is a lot of space. You could quite easily fit 4 washing machines or other white goods in this space, or a big bulky sofa. If you’re like us and visualise things in big black bin bags, then you could fit around 35 of them in this space.
With half a load’s worth of space, you’re looking at a decent amount of space for a house clearance. This gives you plenty of space for multiple items of furniture, some white goods and other mixed waste that you need to dispose of.
In bin bag terms, half a load in an 18 yard transit vehicle will give you space for about 70 big black bin bags worth of rubbish.
Not sure if you’ll be able to fit that last big old armchair into half a load? Go for a ¾ load and you’ll be on the safe side with a massive amount of space at your disposal. Back to our trusty bin bag measurement, and we’re talking nearly 105 big black bin bags in a ¾ load.
With a full 18 cubic yards at your disposal, you could dispose of up to 140 big black bin bags of rubbish up to a maximum weight of 3 tonnes. That’s a whole lot of rubbish. Most of our full load orders come through from professional house clearance companies who are helping to empty an exceptionally large residential home, or perhaps working on clearing a professional space such as a hotel or nursing home during a refit.
