Prohibited Items in Skips & Waste Loads

Keeping our people, customers and facilities safe.

The waste industry has experienced a significant increase in fires, explosions and serious incidents caused by batteries, gas cylinders, aerosols and other pressurised items being incorrectly disposed of within general waste streams. To protect our drivers, customers, processing facilities and recycling partners, Skip It operates a strict prohibited items policy.

Strictly Prohibited: Lithium Batteries & Battery Packs

Why are they dangerous?

  • Responsible for a growing number of waste facility fires

Examples include

  • Power tool batteries
  • E-bike & e-scooter batteries
  • Vape batteries
  • Laptop batteries
  • Mobile phone batteries
  • Rechargeable battery packs

Potential consequences

  • Vehicle fires
  • Waste transfer station fires
  • Property damage
  • Serious injury or fatality

Found a battery in your waste?
Please remove it before your skip is collected and take it to a designated battery recycling point — most supermarkets and household waste recycling centres accept them free of charge. If you’re unsure about any item, our team is happy to advise.

Waste We Accept

These waste types can be placed in the skip without additional charges, provided weight limits are respected and items are not mixed with prohibited waste.
